 Today is

BALTIMORE, MD (September 12, 2008) -- The Rosewood Center will be closed by June 30, 2009.  The Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DHMH) has developed a list of commonly asked questions and answers to help families of Rosewood residents better understand the closure process and their options.

“Family members have valuable input into the needs of their loved ones.     The transition process relies on the input of individuals who know the resident best,” said DHMH Secretary John M. Colmers.  “We encourage families to participate so the best options are identified for their loved ones.”

DHMH officials have developed a new series of questions and answers for Rosewood family members.   The new document responds to common questions regarding the closure of Rosewood.  The questions and answers are available by clicking on “Rosewood Closure Information” located under “Hot Topics” at www.dhmh.state.md.us.

Other information available on the website includes:  background information on the Rosewood Closure; resources for families; plans for monitoring the health and safety of individuals living in the community, and the plan for Court-involved individuals.

DHMH continues to operate a toll-free number as another way of providing information to concerned families of Rosewood Center residents. Phone information is available by dialing 1-866-848-9125.

Rosewood Center residents include those with a broad spectrum of disabilities such as people with mental retardation and challenging behaviors, people with complex medical needs, and people with developmental disabilities who have been involved with the criminal justice system and court-ordered for services. The facility, located near Owings Mills in Baltimore County, opened in 1888.
