Pharmacist’s Response to Bioterrorism

The Board of Pharmacy and the University of Maryland have developed an on-line training course on Bioterrorism for Maryland pharmacists who have been unable to attend the Board’s live Phase 1 training sessions. This course was developed in part to ensure that the Maryland Pharmacist Volunteer Corp (MPVC) volunteers have easy access to volunteer training, but more importantly to ensure a general knowledge of all pharmacists who may consider volunteering for emergency events in Maryland.

The “Pharmacist’s Response to Bioterrorism” is three-credit ACPE continuing education program offered online. Free continuing education (CE) credits will be offered to every pharmacist who participates in the online training,  The course will provide you with an overview of the MPVC program; an introduction on what medications will be used for individuals exposed to biological, chemical, radiological agents; pharmacist preparations, protocol and deployment plans; and the legal liabilities of the state of Maryland volunteers.

In order to access the “Pharmacist’s Response to Bioterrorism” online training, you will need a broadband connection and a Windows Media Player version 9 or higher. For more information, see the attached flyer “Pharmacist’s Response to Bioterrorism – Before you get started.”

Message from Governor Ehrlich: To support Maryland's Hurricane Katrina relief efforts and to help those hurricane victims who have come to Maryland or will in the near future, Governor Ehrlich has directed the Maryland Joint Operations Center to set up a 24/7 contact number (1-877-868-4954) to ensure all evacuees, regardless of their arrival mode, are connected to Maryland services. This number will help link evacuees to their local American Red Cross chapter and register in the Maryland system. Find out more about how Marylanders can help the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
