RE:             SEASONAL SAFETY

It’s a very busy time of year for traveling, shopping and winter recreation. It’s also the time of year for the flu, fender benders, slips/trips and house fires.  Listed below are links to information resources on seasonal hazards and associated prevention tips that can make your holiday activities safer.

Falling Woman on Ice

Falls on icy walkways are all too common and painful.  Some weather related falls result in painful injuries.  Common injuries include sprained ankles and wrists, low back injuries, dislocated shoulders, and trauma to the back of the head.  Use shoes with good traction, take shorter steps.  Avoid rushing and shortcuts.  Always keep your hands out of pockets for better balance and to minimize impact to the elbow and shoulder, should you go horizontal, unexpectedly.

Car in DitchCold weather auto accidents are   frequent and sometimes tragic.  Most are preventable with increased driver awareness, slower driving speed and knowledge of weather hazards. Always be prepared for cold weather delays and roadside emergencies.             Keep a blanket, flares, flashlight, spare clothing and other emergency items in the vehicle.

FireThe picture at right, shows a Christmas tree fire only 4 seconds from ignition… Each year in the U.S. 2600 people die during the Christmas holidays from home fires. Associated property loss is astronomical is cost.  Take every precaution to prevent home fires during this high-risk holiday season.
