The
Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) for the
State of
Maryland
can provide you with the training necessary to become a
qualified forensic pathologist. You will be able to
enjoy living in an exciting, progressive city, filled
with great historic, artistic and cultural resources.
The OCME is a short walk from the
Inner
Harbor,
a major attraction for tourists from all over the
world. Also,
Oriole
Park
at Camden Yards baseball stadium, and MNT stadium, home
of the NFL Ravens are within walking distance of the
office. With a history of leadership in the field of
forensic medicine, the OCME conducts 10,000 death
investigations throughout the State of
Maryland
utilizing a network of deputy medical examiners and
forensic investigators. Over four thousand autopsies
are performed annually, applying procedures that cover
the broad spectrum of forensic medical practice,
including forensic toxicology. A staff of 15 forensic
pathologists provides supervision, advice and support to
our fellows. Regular sessions in neuropathology and
cardiovascular pathology are conducted by staff
consultants. Our curriculum also provides training in
forensic anthropology, ballistics, serology, and trace
evidence analysis. The office is affiliated with the
University of Maryland School of Medicine, and
involvement in research and teaching activities in the
Department of Pathology is encouraged. Salary is
$52,252 with vacation and seminar time allowance.

Requirements:
Successful completion of an accredited pathology
residency training program in either straight anatomic
pathology or combined anatomic/clinical pathology.

Office of the Chief Medical Examiner of the State of Maryland was
the first statewide Medical Examiners Office in the USA.
Established in 1939, the Office investigates the cause of death in
cases that fall under its jurisdiction as defined in the
Annotated Code of Maryland, Health General Section
