“It’s not just for kids anymore.”

Current PAC Recipients

NEW HealthCare For more families!

Begins July 1, 2008!

If you are currently enrolled in PAC, and have dependent children, you may be eligible for Medical Assistance for Families!

What is the difference between PAC and Medical Assistance for Families?

PAC has limited benefits, including:

  • Free visits to a family doctor, also called a Primary Care Provider (PCP).

  • Free outpatient visits to a counselor or psychiatrist for mental health services.

  • Lower-priced or no-cost prescription drugs. You may need to pay a co-pay for some prescriptions. Remember that pharmacists can deny prescriptions if you do not pay the required co-pay.

PAC does not pay for hospital stays, emergency room visits, or visits to specialists.

Medical Assistance for Families offers all of the benefits available in PAC, and additional benefits such as:

  • Visits with specialists

  • X-ray and lab services

  • Inpatient & outpatient hospital services

  • Home health services

  • Hospice services

  • Emergency Services

  • OB/GYN care for women

  • Eye exams

  • Outpatient treatment for drug and alcohol abuse

  • Transportation services

What if I am currently enrolled in PAC, but eligible for benefits from Medical Assistance for Families?

The Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is working to make sure that PAC enrollees with children in Medical Assistance or Maryland Children’s Health Program (MCHP) are enrolled in the Medical Assistance for Families automatically.  PAC enrollees will remain in the same MCO and will be mailed a new enrollment card and information about the new benefits.

If you are currently in PAC and do not receive a notice that you have been moved to Medical Assistance for Families by August 1, 2008, please call the Medical Assistance Hotline at 1-800-456-8900 to have an application mailed to you.

When I move from PAC to Medical Assistance, what will change?

When you move from PAC to Medical Assistance for Families, you will remain in the same MCO and will be able to keep the same doctor.  But, you will be able to get more services, including visits with specialists.  You will be able to change MCOs if you and your children are in different MCOs and you would like to be in the same MCO.  More information will be sent to you regarding this change.
